The Digital Notan Project

Notan is a Japanese term which means “light-dark harmony.” Artists use “Notan studies” to explore different arrangements of light and dark elements in a painting without distraction from other elements like colour, texture and finer details.

For this project, students are tasked to create a Notan that conveys an idea or a narrative based on their favourite movies, books, video games or graphic novels. Click on the thumbnails to view a larger image.
